Members of our student community in Kenya, SfGS-UoN, participated in the recent 18th EAEN Conference hosted in Nairobi, Kenya this May, engaging with leaders in the field of environment and sustainability for Eastern Africa.
The Eastern Africa Environmental Network (EAEN) is a non-profit making NGO founded in 1990 that promotes environmental networking in 11 countries of Eastern Africa, namely: Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan and Eritrea.
EAEN strives to promote environmental awareness and is committed to natural conservation through creation of fora for discussions and facilitation of appropriate interventio, promotion of linkages and partnerships between groups within and outside the region for specific environmental issues.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Environmental Concerns of Climate Change with respect to Sustainable Livelihoods in Eastern Africa” and the event was hosted at the AMREF Headquarters, Nairobi during 23rd – 24th May, 2008.
The folllowing members of Students for Global Sustainability, University of Nairobi (SfGS – UoN) attended the conference: Otieno Nickson Otieno, Njagi Wandia Rael, Maseghe Tairo Martin and Essendi Sylvia. Chairman of SfGS-UoN, Otieno Nickson Otieno ran a successful workshop on “Re-orienting Education for Sustainable Development in Eastern Africa.”
Several leaders within the East African region were awarded for their outstanding contribution to the management and conservation of the environment.
