The WSC-SD is proud to welcome its first student community from Southern Africa – WSC-SD Fort Hare. A newly formed student community from the University of Fort Hare in Alice, South Africa, WSC-SD Fort Hare has already hosted a succcessful summit at their university to raise awareness on sustainability and development issues in Sub-Saharan Africa. WSC-SD Fort Hare is piloting an important project in their local community which involves developing a curriculum and mobilising support for a community based school that was established to take care of disabled students. At this point they are primarily focused, as a first stage on the development of a practical and revelevant curriculum before moving onto resource mobilisation.
Co-President of the WSC-SD, Jess Schulschenk, recently visited members of WSC-SD Fort Hare in Alice and joined the student community on a visit to their first project assisting a local community school for students with learning and physical disabilities. The response from the learners and teachers to the proposed new curriculum was very encouraging and we are looking forward to updating you with further progress on this meaningful project and the activities of this inspiring new student community of the WSC-SD.
