Te World Student Community for Sustainable Development (WSCSD) was founded in 2003 by student representatives from the University of Tokyo (UT), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Cocody-Abidjan.
Since then WSCSD has grown into a global multidisciplinary network of individual members, student communities, young professionals and general sustainability enthusiasts. This platform has helped the members to share their ideas on sustainable development, update each other on their day-to-day sustainability related activities as well as facilitating sharing of research findings in the field of sustainability.
WSCSD’s membership comprises of autonomous Kenyan Chapter, University-based Student Communities and Individual Members.
In Kenya, the WSCSD’s student community, Students for Global Sustainability – University of Nairobi (SfGS-UoN) which was formed in 2006 has evolved into an autonomous national chapter, the World Student Community for Sustainable Development – Kenya (WSCSD-Kenya) which was legally registered by the Kenyan government as a non-profit organization in 2013.
WSCSD-Kenya currently boasts of semi-autonomous student communities in over thirty (30) universities in Kenya.
WSCSD-Kenya is undertaking exemplary work aimed at mainstreaming sustainability in Kenyan campuses and communities.
