Welcome to the next biannual conference in
Engineering Education in Sustainable Development, EESD10
Göteborg, Sweden, September, 19th -22nd
(+ side event in Stockholm, September, 23d), 2010.
Theme: Learning for transformation
Sustainable development requires a shift towards a society that better addresses basic human needs and the limitations of natural systems. A transformation of e.g. mindsets, educational approaches, societal structures, technical systems and economic accounting methods is needed. Engineering education institutions can play an important role in this transformation and in the sustainable society if sustainable development becomes a framework for a redesign of the structure and goal of organizations and of pedagogical, research and cooperation approaches and methods. This conference addresses the role of engineering education in the learning for the required transformation.
Abstracts
We welcome abstracts from all over the world that share results and experiences from research and development efforts related to engineering education in sustainable development, e.g. on:
- Learning outcomes and competencies, e.g. the relation between program goals, accreditation criteria and societal needs, and assessment of learning
- Teaching and learning activities, e.g. dealing with attitudes and values or with transformative learning,
- Pedagogical approaches, e.g. work integrated learning, network-based learning and problem-based learning
- Curriculum transformation, e.g. embedding of sustainable development
- Professional development of engineers and other groups
- Institutional change, e.g. support, training and other incentives for lecturers, ESD in EMS
- Campus development, e.g. using campus as a lab bench
- Cooperation, e.g. interdisciplinarity, work-integrated learning, entrepreneurship and innovation
- Societal change, e.g. governance, policy instruments, future role of engineering education institutions
- Student involvement, e.g. student initiatives
Contributions must be reflective and analytical and not mere descriptions of performed activities.
We also welcome contributions from external stakeholders, outside of engineering education institutions, e.g. industry, organizations, state and municipal agencies and other academic institutions.
