A review of projects and activities of our student community in Sweden – Chalmers Students for Sustainability, for the last academic year. Learn more about CSS under Student Communities.
Spring Seminar
The Spring Seminar has been the main achievement of this year. It has needed a lot of work and coordination. This seminar gathered six speakers from different backgrounds (Chalmers, The AGS Chalmers and Gothenburg Administration) and we welcomed over eighty people in the lecture hall. The seminar will be an annual activity with high ambitions. The planning for Spring Seminar 2008 started in October and has been the focus of CSS work during the autumn. Politicians, scientists, economists and company representatives have been invited to the Spring Seminar 2008.
Green Boards
The “Green Boards” (note boards for environmental information) are issued from an old campaign done by CSS in 2004 and needed to be updated. A new purpose for them has been found: displaying the Master Thesis related to sustainable development. CSS also planned to set up more green boards in the departments of Chalmers, especially in Lindholmen Campus.
Green Electricity at Chalmers
CSS has launched a project around the possibility to make Chalmers switch to green electricity suppliers for its own energy consumption. The project started by investigating the standpoints of different energy suppliers. CSS will keep working with this during 2008 to try and find possibilities to switch to renewable and environmental friendly electricity.
WSC-SD Annual Meeting
CSS joined the WSC-SD Annual Meeting in Tokyo nicknamed “Student Summit for Sustainability”. The flagship for the meeting was “taking action for global sustainability”. Two students represented CSS and performed the workshop.
Preparation and participation of the “Sustainability Days” at Chalmers
The sustainability days consisted of two days with lectures, movies and information of different environmental organisations. The project was launched by GMV (Gothenburg Centre for Environmental Science) together with Chalmers and Gothenburg University.
International projects competition
CSS has launched an international project competition in cooperation with AGS, Chalmers and WSC-SD. Everyone will be invited to register and present his / her project regarding SD. Our aim at the moment is to get funding to cover the expenses of the grand prize and a coordinating team, in order to lead this competition along with the WSC-SD.
