The purpose of the WSC-SD Annual Meeting is to offer the opportunity to students in different student communities for communicating with each other and to encourage students to pay more attention to the various ideas for solving the questions of global sustainability from the different viewpoints of nationality, culture, academic fields, etc. In order to achieve the goal, we held the Annual Meeting under the theme of “New solutions for a sustainable future – Creating student collaborations through the WSC-SD”.
The Annual Meeting is the unique chance to become a part of a worldwide network of multidisciplinary and cross-cultural specialists. In the 2003 WSC-SD Annual Meeting, 93 students came together in Tokyo from 19 different universities from all over the world, and we could have fruitful discussions through the Annual Meeting.
For example, we held paper presentation sessions under the theme of “New Solutions for a Sustainable Future”, and 36 students in all disciplines and subfields, such as the economic, social, cultural, educational, health and related fields, had the opportunity to present their papers to exchange various ideas on sustainable development.
We also held workshops under the theme of “Creating Student Collaborations through the WSC-SD”. The WSC-SD is very young organization and there was no project among different universities up to the present. Therefore, to launch the new collaborative projects among the student communities was one of the most important and prioritized point in the Annual Meeting, because permanent committees and collaborative projects could only function well if the participants know face to face and understand each other what they want to achieve together. Therefore, workshops were the great opportunities for participants to improve and strengthen our activities.
Through many activities, we could exchange various ideas, discuss a lot of issues, and start to launch some projects. However, most valuable outcome was our great FRIENDSHIP. Without friendship, we can never carry out any projects nor achieve global sustainability. I hope our friendship will last forever and the WSC-SD can move forward step by step and expand our potential. I hope for your continued interest in the WSC-SD and sincerely hope that we can collaborate in some capacities. Thank you very much for all your cooperation and see you again in the near future.
