Climate change is arguably the biggest global issue facing humans. However, climate change is linked to a range of different other issues: lost of biodiversity, starvation, immigration, poverty… Technology and science will be needed to help our societies adapt to climate change. Nevertheless we need to tackle it and can only do it by changing our values, lifestyles and working practices. Adopting a low carbon and sustainable lifestyle is the only viable solution in the long run.
Because half the world’s population is under 20 years old, we believe that young people will be the main actor of change in the near future. In that way, the “Lifeshift” project aims to enable young people to think, communicate, travel, consume and live in a sustainable way.
We want to achieve our aims by developing and promoting activities, training courses, and events, for and by young people. Our first project will be to set up training courses for young leaders to enable them to run workshops about sustainable lifestyle for leaders of youth and student groups as well as organise sustainable events and workcamps for young people.
The Lifeshift project was launched by StudentForce for Sustainability. We have already organised a European workshop in October 2008 in order to develop our network and brainstorm ideas with other European partners.
This European team is now the steering group which will develop together the training approach and resources for three different courses which will be held in three different countries in Europe throughout 2009.
