The countdown has already begun, but the momentum is still building up: today it’s 80 days before the COP15 Climate Summit in Copenhagen kicks off, said to be a pivotal and decisive one in international relations, a huge task for the international community to take bolds steps in tackling runaway climate change.
Therefore, a number of campaigns, both online and offline, have spread throughout the world.
We have just partnered with one of them, PlanetCall, an online campaign endorsed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, to collect 1 million signatures to be presented at COP15 in December 2009. The aim: to demonstrate to global policymakers, business leaders, and scientists that global youth support an ambitious new climate treaty.
What you can do
PlanetCall wants to mobilise a huge international youth community, and you can be part of that: by Signing the Declaration, Posting a Call, or forwarding this message, asking all those you know to do the same. Or take a look at WSC-SD profile at PlanetCall.
”Get involved. Get mobilized. Inspire us with your passion, even shame us into action,” said Ban Ki-moon when the campaign was first unveiled at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen in May. ”This is what you can do, and that is what I am asking you to do.”
Other interesting campaigns and movements that are also related to the COP15 are:
1. TckTckTck, a global campaign with lots of big and international partners, organizing a Global Climate Wake-up Call this monday 21st of September (more than 1800 activities in 120 countries!)
2. Seal The Deal, a UNEP Campaign in the run-up to COP15.
3. The official COP15 website
4. More links related to COP15 can be found at the special COP15 page on the WSC-SD members wiki.
We encourage you all to participate and show your support for a ambitious, fair and binding climate treaty in Copenhagen!

The concerns for a ‘green’ world is far more than over. It all narrows down to an individual. It is no longer a concern for the government, neither is it the concern for the developed nations, it is indeed a concern for each individual that has the passion for a better living of the coming generation. It is a challenge, but what kind of challenge? It all depends on our perception and how we view things. One needs not to do great or far much bigger things to raise his/her concern. One needs not to rise to a given post to start addressing the energy concerns and climate change. Everyone is a stake-holder in this. Just little things like taking care of the environment, planting of trees, being economical when it comes to power use, being at the fore-front in conserving the environment. This is all that matters! Why waste. The papers, why can’t we really go ‘soft’ with the available technology, at least we could save the trees. The paper bags in the supermarkets, why can’t we end this daily packing of shopping material with paper-bags by having shopping baskets/bags that are reusable. With that, we could spend less in power needed to produce these and furthermore, the environmental degradation that these plastic bags cause could be reduced. Maybe to point out clearly, look at the blockages caused by the paper-bags that have not been disposed well in rivers and water channels. They are quite a nuisance to the environment. That is why I say, individuals have much stake in making a stop to the climate craziness we witness around. If all could have the notion that what I do now to the environment will affect me tomorrow in terms of climate change, if all narrows down to individual consequences, then no doubt, there would be remarkable changes. Let’s unite and raise policies that will encourage each and every person to be part of it, to bring about a positive climate change. Cheers!
